Crack the Skye exceeds in quality everything Mastodon has done before or since. Not only does it delve into areas prog has never gone before, but it pushes the very boundaries of metal itself. To top off the remarkable musical ingenuity demonstrated throughout the album, the lyrical concept tackles wormholes, astral travel, the pain of loss, and Rasputin's role in the downfall of Tsarist Russia.
